Residential Piling & Underpinning

RESIDENTIAL PILING

The piling is a type of deep foundation that is used to transfer the building loads to the deeper sub-surface founding material where the shallow foundations cannot achieve the same strength.

There are several different types of piling such as concrete bored piles, screw piles, timber driven piles or pre-cast concrete driven piles. At SNG Engineers we design and document the piling requirement for residential houses if the shallow foundations are not suitable due to several reasons such as low bearing of the founding soil or other services present near the building etc.

UNDERPINNING

Underpinning is a technique to rectify failed foundation by installing the piles in some areas of the building. Underpinning is an expensive process and it should be avoided if possible. However, in some cases, the underpinning is unavoidable e.g. Continuous movement in the foundations, differential settlement leading to the damage to other elements of the building etc. In such cases underpinning or slab jacking techniques are used to level the slab and strengthen the foundations.

At SNG Engineers we design and document the locations and type of underpinning required to rectify the slab and/or footings.
